Junior Summer Institute

BLI's partnership with Princeton University allows NMHU students to attend the Public Policy and International Affairs Junior Summer Institute with a full scholarship. Students nominated by NMHU and accepted by Princeton participate in a seven-week institute focused on developing critical public policy skills. Rodrigo Blanco Rojas participated in the 2009 Junior Summer Institute.

Ben LujanRepresentative Ben Luján, of Nambe, has served in the New Mexico House of Representatives continuously since 1974. During that time he has been Majority Whip, Majority Floor Leader and since 2001, Speaker of the New Mexico House of Representatives. He has played critical roles in issues such as public schools, revenue stabilization, Indian affairs, water and natural resources, and the national laboratories.

The Bill Richardson Public Policy Center

This center allows undergraduate students at New Mexico Highlands University to participate in summer policy institutes under the auspices of partnering universities. The institutes address national and international concerns.Bill Richardson

Bill Richardson represented New Mexico in the U.S. House of Representatives from 1983-1997. He served as United States Ambassador to the United Nations and U.S. Secretary of Energy during the Clinton Administration. He was elected Governor of New Mexico in 2002.

 

The Samuel O. Montoya Center for Community Service

The Samuel O. Montoya Center for Community Service engages high school and college students on projects that focus on public service and are designed to create the next generation of leaders.Samuel o. Montoya

Samuel O. Montoya served as the county manager in Santa Fe and Taos. He was President of the New Mexico Association of Counties at the time of his death in 2004.

 

The Toney Anaya Think Tank

The Toney Anaya Think Tank engages students and community leaders in research, writing and public discourse to shape and promote policies that affect higher education in New Mexico and the nation.Toney Anaya

Toney Anaya was the Governor of New Mexico between 1983 and 1987. He
served as the New Mexico Attorney General from 1975-1978.

 

The Manuel Luján, Jr. Public Policy Center

The Manuel Luján, Jr. Public Policy Center provides opportunities to a broad range of participants, including college and high school students, business, education and health care leaders, to participate in discussions that affect public policy on contemporary issues.Maneul Lujan Jr.

Manuel Luján, Jr. represented New Mexico in the U.S. House of Representatives from 1969-1989. He served as the U.S. Secretary of the Interior during the George H. Bush Administration.

 

The Jerry Apodaca Public Policy Center

The Jerry Apodaca Public Policy Center offers programs to students to discuss domestic public policy with the mission of affecting policy change.Jerry Apodaca

Jerry Apodaca was the Governor of New Mexico from 1975-1978. He previously represented Doña Ana County in the New Mexico Senate.
